The ‘Nordic Fiddlers Bloc’ comprise Olav Luksengård Mjelva (Norway), Anders Hall (Sweden) and Kevin Henderson (Shetland).

Individually they are regarded as three of the finest young fiddle players currently working in the international folk music scene, while collectively they are now finding themselves increasingly in demand across the world due to their unique collaboration.

Nordic Fiddlers Bloc is the brainchild of Anders Hall who felt that combining the three distinctive fiddles styles of their respective countries and regions would create a special musical sound and experience.

Norway, Sweden and Shetland have three of the richest fiddle traditions in the world, with documented historical links going back hundreds of years. ‘Nordic Fiddlers Bloc’ are now seeking to bring those historical links and traditions alive and present them in an exciting new fashion, while also remaining faithful to the roots of each tradition.

While blending the individual styles together they never-the-less allow each distinctive flavour to unfold into a combined sound that’s unique, meaningful, intense and invigorating.

Kevin Henderson, an acclaimed fiddler from the Shetland Islands, is in hot demand as he performs around the globe with three high-profile musical groups. He has been a member of Shetland group, Fiddlers’ Bid, since 1991; Celtic group, Boys of the Lough, since 2002; and Scottish group, Session A9, since 2004.

He has been featured on 11 albums

Session A9 and Fiddlers Bid recently starred in No sleep till Yell and FIddlers Bid programmes showing the strength of the Shetland Folk Festival.

Olav Luksengård Mjelva comes from Røros in the Sør-Trøndelag region of Norway.

In March 2010 Olav won the prestigious Spellemannprisen, the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy Awards.

He is now a familiar face in the Nordic folk music scene and can be found playing in a number of well-known Norwegian groups such as SVER, The Unni Boksasp Ensemble and the Copper City Ramblers to name but a few.

Anders Hall comes from Arbrå, Hälsingland in Sweden. He plays fiddle, viola and also the Hardanger fiddle, an instrument he studied at the Ole Bull Academy in Voss from 2006-2008. As a result he now has a unique knowledge of both, Norwegian traditional music as well as his native Swedish.

He has established himself as a creative and gifted musician on the Nordic folk music scene working with the likes of SVER and Taus with Sigrid Moldestad. He has an ability to reach the listener, fitting together old traditions with innovative ideas and expressions.
