Fiona Cuthill and Stevie Lawrence are a fiddle and guitar/bouzouki duo from Glasgow. They play self penned contemporary fiddle music with a touch of rock attitude thrown in in for good measure!

Fiona and Stevies musical partnership blossomed from a shared love of traditional and rock music.  They are currently members of Scottish based band “Rallion” but have also recorded and performed together with various ensembles from the Early Music of “Whirligig” , the modern Celtic sound of “Canterach” to the progressive rock of “Abel Ganz”.  

As a duo they have performed all over Scotland as well as festivals in Europe and Scandinavia

They were the opening act for “The Red Hot Chilli Pipers” on their 2009 Scottish Tour and also opened for Robin Williamson and John Renbourne.

The Duo are also part of Fellside artist Wendy Weatherby’s live band.

Fiona Cuthill was classically trained in violin by Bill Baxter, who played in the renowned Halley Orchestra. After leaving school, she studied more traditional styles of playing and spent the next 10 years playing in ceilidh bands and sessions all over the country. 

Fiona has been a member of several traditional/folk bands in her career so far, including Whirligig, Canterach, and Real Time. She also has many recording credits to her name.

Fiona is in demand as a session musician and has appeared on many CDs. A Tutor of the Glasgow Fiddle Workshop she is also a prolific composer and one of her tunes has been recorded by renowned Quebecois band Le Vent du Nord.

 

Stevie Lawrence was initially involved in rock bands from schooldays and was active in the Glasgow pub rock scene before turning to acoustic and roots music in the early eighties.
Working with Cruachan for 6 years playing Festivals and Folk Clubs all over Scotland, he then joined the ranks of The Iron Horse,  recording 3 albums with the band during a 3 year stint as well as touring all over the UK and Europe as well as Poland and Egypt.

After leaving Iron Horse, Stevie carved a career as session musician and producer and has worked with a diverse range of artists including Canterach, Gaelic Singer and piper Anna Murray, Tannas, Mick West, John Wright, Carol Kidd, Lena Martell, Donnie Munro, Pete Seeger, Laura McGhee, Josh White Jr, Angus Lyon, Shane MacGowan, Maddy Prior, Dascha(German Pop Idol finalist), Keith Jack, Craig Jeffrey, Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Abel Ganz.

Over the last 3 years he has been involved with The Red Hot Chilli Pipers touring worldwide and performing on the DVD/CD “Blast” and their most recent release “Music for the Kilted Generation”

He is also currently involved in multimedia and specially commissioned projects.

Stevie currently tours and records with Rallion, Mick West, Kyle Warren Band and The Red Hot Chilli Pipers.

Fiona and Stevie’s debut CD “A Cruel Kindness” was released in October 2011 on the Fellside label and 2012 sees them with Theatre and festival appearances in Canada, Norway and Italy.
